Buy ground coffee
You have landed on this page because you are looking for ground coffee. Café du jour will be happy to help you make the right choice for your pack of ground coffee. Different flavours and brands of ground coffee are offered. Most are the so-called "standard grind", but from some brands you can buy a fine or a coarse grind. The difference in choices is in the brewing method and/or the machine used to brew the coffee. The following coffees go from very fine ground coffee to very coarse ground; Turkish coffee, Manual espresso machine, Percolator, Fully automatic espresso machine, Quick filter, Normal filter, Cafetière and Chemex.
Fine ground coffee
What grind do you need? You need a finer grind if your coffee machine wants to brew a cup of coffee quickly. Think, for example, of an espresso machine that can make a cup of coffee in a few seconds. The fine grind releases more flavour faster in the water dripping through the ground coffee. So if you have a filter or Chemex where the coffee drips slowly through the coffee filter, you need a coarser grind. The finer the grind, the more flavour the ground coffee will impart. If you use finely ground coffee for a slower brewing method, the coffee will taste very bitter. If you do this the other way around, i.e. use a coarse grind for a fast brewing method, the coffee will taste a bit more sour.
Coarsely ground coffee
We find that coarse ground coffee is the most popular coffee. A coarse grind is suitable for slower brewing methods. In general, most Dutch people have a filter machine with normal filters. To influence the taste of your cup of coffee in a very positive way, it is best to grind coffee beans just before brewing. The "freshness" of the coffee is quickly lost in a ground version. To completely solve this problem, use coffee beans and a good coffee grinder. For those who think having their own coffee grinder is excessive, Café du jour gives the choice of choosing your own grind with some brands of ground coffee. Take ground coffee from Caffè Miglior, for example, and choose the variant suitable for your particular coffee machine.
Origin of ground coffee
South America is a major producer of high-quality coffee beans. The coffee beans are hand-picked and then roasted and ground. The grind is important as it affects the taste and strength of the coffee. Coarsely ground coffee beans are suitable for a French Press, for example, while finely ground coffee beans are more suitable for an espresso. Arabica coffee beans from South America often have a mild flavour and are suitable for a fine grind, while Robusta coffee beans from South America have a stronger and bitter flavour and are more suitable for a coarse grind. It is important to choose the right grind to get the optimal flavour from the coffee beans.
