The Café du Jour 100% Arabica Brazil Dark Roast is perfect for those who love the traditional flavour of dark roast coffee. It's a robust coffee that's smooth to drink, without any burnt notes. You'll distinctly taste the nutty flavour that's characteristic of high-quality Brazilian coffee. This coffee is roasted to a medium-dark level for an intense flavour experience. The dark brown beans have a slight sheen of oil on their surface but are not black. The coffee offers a rich and full-bodied mouthfeel with hints of dark chocolate. Prefer a slightly lighter roast? FAQ
Customer Questions
What is the roast date?
The roast date of Café du Jour's coffee beans is usually a maximum of four weeks before dispatch. This means that the coffee beans are generally no older than four weeks when they arrive at your door. Many people ask if coffee beans are already too old after three weeks. The answer to that is: no. Freshly roasted coffee actually reaches its best flavour after a few weeks. During roasting, carbon dioxide (CO₂) is created inside the coffee beans, which can mask the taste at first. That is why coffee is at its best between one and four weeks after roasting. After roasting, the beans are immediately packed in special coffee bags with a one-way valve. This valve allows CO₂ to escape without letting oxygen in, so the aromas are preserved and the coffee remains fresh. This way, you can count on an optimally fresh product with a full flavour!
Is this coffee suitable for filter coffee or only for espresso?
This coffee is versatile and suitable for various brewing methods. Customers indicate that the beans are not only suitable for espresso, but also excellent for filter coffee. The intense, full flavour is well preserved, regardless of the method.
Are the Dark Roast Brazil coffee beans very greasy or oily?
These beans are medium-dark to dark roasted, which may cause some oil to be visible on the surface of the bean. This is typical for a dark roast and enhances the full, powerful flavour. Please note that some customers find the beans quite oily. We recommend cleaning your coffee grinder regularly when using dark, oily beans.
Does this coffee have a fresh or acidic flavour like some other Brazilian coffees?
No, this coffee does not contain any acidity or fresh flavour notes. Many of our customers actually notice that the acidity is absent, which makes the coffee taste full-bodied and strong without the fresher acidity you find in some other coffees.
Does this dark roast result in a bitter or burnt taste in the coffee?
We roast our Dark Roast Brazil beans so that they are powerful in flavour without a burnt or unpleasantly bitter aftertaste. The flavour is full and intense with clearly recognisable notes of nuts and dark chocolate. Compared to many other dark roasts, these beans are therefore not bitter or burnt, which is also confirmed by many of our customers.
Can I use these beans in a fully automatic machine or coffee grinder, despite the dark roast?
You can use these beans in all coffee grinders and fully automatic machines. However, we recommend that you clean your fully automatic machine or (home) grinder regularly, as oily, dark roasted beans can leave residues. This prevents the build-up of oils and keeps your machine in good condition.
