They sponsored schools and football fields.
The coffee tastes sweet and has a very light acidity with small hints of chocolate and orange blossom. We roasted the coffee to medium roast. So it suits the style of a fruity filter coffee or a sweet espresso.
A sweet coffee with a very slight acidity. You taste orange blossom, nutmeg, chocolate, palm sugar and vanilla.
The plantation: Hacienda Candelaria
Café du Jour 100% arabica Speciality Costa Rica comes from the family estate Hacienda Candelaria. It is located about 50 kilometres northwest of San Jose, near the town of Palmares in Alajuela. The 60-hectare estate was founded in 1965 by Otto Kloeti and today remains a family business which is committed to the local community. For example, they sponsor a school and football field.
Hacienda Candelaria is able to wash and dry the coffee in their own processing facility. Because they control that process themselves, they can deliver consistent quality and get a better price for the coffee. The soil in the region is enriched with volcanic ash and organic material which ensure good distribution of the plants' roots and the preservation of moisture in the soil. More than 70% of the coffee plants are at an altitude of 1,300 to 1,700 metres above sea level and grow at a temperature of between 17 and 23 degrees Celsius. Sunshine hours are stable and rainfall is optimal.
Café du jour Coffee beans
Café du Jour's own-brand coffee beans are roasted on a small scale by a specialist roaster. The beans are roasted and stocked weekly, so the roasting date is always recent. The roast date is therefore noted on the packaging label.
Resealable coffee packaging
Whether you buy 250g, 500g or a kilo Café du Jour coffee beans: they always come in a special resealable packaging. The coffee bag has a special resealable rim so you can always re-pack the coffee airtight. On the front of each bag is a valve, this allows gases and air to escape from the bag without allowing air from outside to flow back into the bag. This way, we do everything we can to preserve the optimal freshness of your coffee!
