Dallmayr at a glance
Dallmayr is a family-run delicatessen house in Munich, Germany, and it roasts its coffee in its own German roasteries. The shop was first mentioned around 1700 and has carried the name of its owner Alois Dallmayr since 1870. Coffee became a Dallmayr speciality in 1933, when the Bremen coffee expert Konrad Werner Wille built up its coffee department.
Choosing your Dallmayr coffee
Dallmayr d'Oro: espresso and caffè crema beans
The Dallmayr d'Oro line, launched in 2003, is roasted slowly at a low temperature and sold as 1 kg of beans for bean-to-cup and portafilter machines. Espresso d'Oro is a powerful espresso blend of Central American arabica and Indian robusta, intensity 8 out of 10 on Dallmayr's scale (8 out of 13 on ours), which also works in a moka pot. Crema d'Oro mild & fine is soft and aromatic (6 out of 10, 6 out of 13), a caffè crema that also suits cappuccino. Crema d'Oro intensa is fuller and more intense, with roast notes and little acidity (8 out of 10, 8 out of 13).
Dallmayr Home Barista: dark roasts for milk drinks
Dallmayr roasts its Home Barista beans long and dark. Home Barista Caffè Crema Forte is intense and full-bodied with little acidity, intensity 7 out of 10 (7 out of 13), for caffè crema, espresso or cappuccino. Home Barista Crema e Aroma is strong and aromatic, with a creamy texture that Dallmayr makes for drinks with milk such as latte macchiato (8 out of 10, 8 out of 13).
Dallmayr prodomo: 100% arabica since 1964
Konrad Werner Wille created Dallmayr prodomo in Munich in 1964, and the name is Latin for "for the house". Dallmayr prodomo is 100% arabica from Asia, Africa and South and Central America, with Ethiopian arabica shaping its full-aromatic, spicy taste; strength 4 out of 5 (8 out of 13). Buy prodomo ground for filter brewing or prodomo beans to grind yourself. Without caffeine, the harmonious prodomo Decaf (3 out of 5, 6 out of 13) comes as beans or ground coffee.
Dallmayr Classic: arabica and robusta for the filter
Dallmayr Classic is a medium-roasted arabica and robusta blend in whole beans, strong and aromatic in taste, strength 4 out of 5 on Dallmayr's scale (8 out of 13). Classic kräftig (German for strong) is the ground, more intense version, 5 out of 5 on Dallmayr's scale (10 out of 13): spicy and full-bodied with little acidity, to drink black or with milk.
Dallmayr beans or ground coffee?
Dallmayr ground coffee (prodomo, prodomo Decaf, Classic kräftig) has a filter grind for a filter machine, hand filter or cafetière. Dallmayr beans suit a bean-to-cup machine; for espresso, pick from d'Oro or Home Barista.
