Freshly roasted coffee beans daily
Fresh Coffee
The Café du Jour fresh coffee beans are the work of two brothers who turned their passion for coffee into their profession. After years of experience in Italian hospitality, from 2015 onwards, endless experiments were conducted with coffee beans and espresso machines, in search of the perfect cup of coffee. Initially without commercial intentions, but eventually sharing coffee with friends and family became so important that they decided to turn this hobby into their work. At first, by importing various Italian brands such as illy, Lavazza, and Segafredo. But soon, they started roasting their own coffee and creating their own blends.
The Café du Jour fresh coffee beans are roasted daily in small batches, then tasted and evaluated by the master roaster. Once approved, these freshly roasted beans are inspected and sorted for any irregularities, packed, sealed, and labelled with the roasting date. This way, you can always be sure of receiving a fresh bag of roasted coffee from Café du Jour: never older than four weeks when it arrives at your home. The same applies to freshly baked bread from the baker: isn't that also more delicious than factory bread?

How to Make the Right Choice?
Anyone who has experienced an espresso brewed with fresh beans knows that the experience is unbeatable. Some luxury brands sit in warehouses for weeks or even months waiting for a buyer. While that's not unusual, and coffee can be stored for up to a year, fresh coffee beans taste their best within weeks of roasting. Typically, fresh beans can be enjoyed as soon as two days after roasting. However, as gases escape post-roasting, one week after roasting is the optimal time to grind and use the beans. At Café du Jour, our coffee beans are incredibly fresh. The roasting process is carried out at lower temperatures, which ensures a slower and more even roast. Depending on the bean and desired roast, temperatures range between 180 and 220 degrees. The resulting taste experience from our roastery is sensational. If you place your order before 3 PM, you can trust that your beans will be shipped the same day, and they will never be older than four weeks.
Fresh Coffee Beans
We often get asked if the coffee is too old when the roasting date is from three weeks ago. The short answer is: no, after a few weeks, the coffee is at its best! Right after roasting, coffee is filled with carbon dioxide (CO2), which forms during the roasting process and initially masks the flavour. Depending on the bean and roast type, coffee reaches its peak between one to four weeks. Our beans are stored in special coffee bags right after roasting to ensure freshness.
Buy Freshly Roasted Coffee Beans
We offer a wide selection, including popular blends, coffees from various origins, single origin, and decaffeinated options that you can purchase in small packs or in bulk. Use our special freshly roasted beans to make exceptional coffee at home or in the office. Quality fresh beans are crucial for a good cup of coffee — especially if you need multiple cups to fuel your day. The elements coffee lovers cherish, such as personal flavour and aroma, stem from the roasting process, which starts with well-known producers worldwide. When a green coffee bean is picked, it holds the precursors for the complex flavour profiles we crave. Our roasting process ignites a flavour explosion with notes of chocolate, caramel, flowers, or fruit.
During roasting, coffee beans endure extreme heat. The complex mixture of minerals, carbohydrates, amino acids, proteins, lipids, water, and caffeine undergoes chemical reactions that bring about coffee's irresistible aroma and taste. Proper packaging limits air exposure, preserving the flavour until it reaches you. Our protocol ensures beans are brewed as soon as possible after roasting. Let your friends envy your delicious espressos and other brews!
The Degassing Process of Freshly Roasted Coffee Beans
Customers often inquire if roasted beans are outdated when the roasting date is from three weeks ago. The brief response is: no, coffee is at its peak after those few weeks. This is because freshly roasted beans are packed with CO2, which initially dulls the flavour. Depending on the bean type and roast, coffee is best consumed one to four weeks after roasting. Our special coffee bags have a valve that allows the gas to escape without compromising the aroma, while preventing oxygen from re-entering.
Buying and Storing Fresh Coffee Beans: What to Watch For
Because fresh beans can quickly lose freshness, proper storage is key. Consider these factors when bringing coffee home: store in a dry place to avoid moisture, and keep the packaging tightly sealed to protect from air — an airtight tin works well. Our packaging boasts a special valve to release CO2 but keep air out, maintaining freshness. However, these aren't for long-term storage, so use the coffee promptly. To preserve flavours, store coffee in a dark, cool place. Our delicious coffees are quality-selected, hand-roasted, and shipped daily across the Netherlands. We roast and deliver your fresh, superb coffee.
