FAQ
Customer Questions
What is the roast date?
The roast date of Café du Jour's coffee beans is usually a maximum of four weeks before dispatch. This means that the coffee beans are generally no older than four weeks when they arrive at your door. Many people ask if coffee beans are already too old after three weeks. The answer to that is: no. Freshly roasted coffee actually reaches its best flavour after a few weeks. During roasting, carbon dioxide (CO₂) is created inside the coffee beans, which can mask the taste at first. That is why coffee is at its best between one and four weeks after roasting. After roasting, the beans are immediately packed in special coffee bags with a one-way valve. This valve allows CO₂ to escape without letting oxygen in, so the aromas are preserved and the coffee remains fresh. This way, you can count on an optimally fresh product with a full flavour!
Which flavour notes and characteristics can I expect from the Espresso Intenso?
The Espresso Intenso has a powerful and full flavour with a fine bitterness, creamy texture and a clearly present crema layer. In the finish you taste nutty notes, subtle cocoa and a light spiciness. Many customers appreciate the beautiful thick crema and the deep, Italian espresso experience.
How fresh are these beans and how long do they stay good after opening?
The Espresso Intenso beans are freshly roasted and stocked every week. The packaging always displays the roasting date. Thanks to the resealable packaging and the one-way valve, freshness is optimally preserved. After opening, we recommend using the beans within 2-4 weeks for the best flavour results.
Are these coffee beans suitable for cappuccino or milk-based preparations?
Yes, the Espresso Intenso is very suitable for cappuccinos and other milk-based drinks. Customers indicate that the strong flavour and slightly bitter note also come into their own when combined with milk. Thanks to the full body and crema layer, the coffee flavour remains nicely present in cappuccino or latte.
Are the beans dry or oily and does that affect the use in my fully automatic machine?
Our beans are generally dry, but some customers have noticed that the beans can sometimes be a bit oilier. This may affect the bean supply in some fully automatic machines. We recommend cleaning the bean hopper regularly, especially when using oilier beans, to prevent blockages.
What is the best recipe or ratio to make an Italian espresso with this?
For an authentic Italian espresso, we recommend using approximately 7-10 grams of ground coffee for a shot of 20-30 ml. Some customers prefer a 1:2 ratio (for example, 18 grams of coffee to 36 ml of espresso), but for a classic Italian result you can use 10 grams of coffee and 20 ml of water. Feel free to experiment with your machine for the most delicious result!
