Freshly Roasted Coffee

Did you know that supermarket coffee is often a year old before it even reaches your home? That’s definitely not the case with our coffee! We roast small batches every week, ensuring the coffee is never more than about four weeks old before it arrives at your doorstep. You can find the roasting date on every pack.

Café du Jour Coffee Beans

Café du Jour’s signature coffee beans are roasted in small batches by a specialist roaster. The beans are freshly roasted and stocked each week, so the roast date is always recent. This date is clearly marked on the packaging label.

Resealable Coffee Packaging

Whether you choose 250g, 500g, or a kilo of Café du Jour coffee beans, they always come in a specially designed resealable package. The coffee bag features a unique resealable strip to keep your coffee airtight. Each bag also includes a one-way valve on the front, allowing gases to escape while preventing external air from getting in. This way, we ensure your coffee remains optimally fresh!

FAQ
Customer Questions
What is the roast date?
The roast date of Café du Jour's coffee beans is usually a maximum of four weeks before dispatch. This means that the coffee beans are generally no older than four weeks when they arrive at your door. Many people ask if coffee beans are already too old after three weeks. The answer to that is: no. Freshly roasted coffee actually reaches its best flavour after a few weeks. During roasting, carbon dioxide (CO₂) is created inside the coffee beans, which can mask the taste at first. That is why coffee is at its best between one and four weeks after roasting. After roasting, the beans are immediately packed in special coffee bags with a one-way valve. This valve allows CO₂ to escape without letting oxygen in, so the aromas are preserved and the coffee remains fresh. This way, you can count on an optimally fresh product with a full flavour!
Is it wise to buy the 4 kilo offer considering the shelf life?
To experience the beans at their best, we would recommend drinking them within three months. However, even after that, the coffee will still be very tasty, but the quality of aroma and flavour will gradually decrease. In any case, it is advisable to consume them within 12 months.
Which coffee flavours are included in the Bestsellers 4 x 1 kilo package, and how do they differ in taste?
This package contains four varieties: Café du Jour Ethiopia, Brazil Santos, Espresso Madrugador, and South America. Each of these beans has its own character: Ethiopia is known for its lively, lightly fruity flavour; Brazil Santos is softer and rounder; Madrugador is our powerful, full-bodied espresso blend; South America offers an accessible, balanced cup of coffee. The tasting package is ideal for discovering which flavour suits you best.
Some beans in the package sometimes taste ‘sour’ or ‘bitter’. How should I best set up my coffee machine for this fresh coffee?
Because our beans are very fresh, flavour nuances such as acidity or bitterness can be more pronounced than with older supermarket beans. Adjust the grind size (often grinding a little finer), possibly increase the dosage, and also try to adjust the temperature and extraction time of your coffee machine. Experimenting a little helps to get the best out of fresh coffee beans, as many coffee enthusiasts suggest in the reviews.
How do the beans stay fresh after opening and how can you best store them?
All bags in the package are equipped with a special resealable strip and a valve. By closing the bag properly after use, you protect the coffee from air and moisture. We recommend storing the beans in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. This way, the freshness and aroma of the coffee are optimally preserved.
Are these coffee beans suitable for all coffee machines, such as fully automatic, semi-automatic (piston), filter or percolator?
Yes, our coffee beans are suitable for all common brewing methods, including fully automatic machines, semi-automatic machines (piston machines), filter coffee and percolators. However, we do recommend adjusting your grind or grind size to your equipment, as extra fresh coffee sometimes requires a finer grind for optimal extraction and flavour.
