Piazza D'Oro variants: Dolce, Forza and Intenso

Piazza D'Oro coffee beans come in three variants: Dolce, Forza and Intenso. Each variant has its own intensity level and taste profile, so you can choose the bean that matches your preference.

Piazza D'Oro Dolce

Piazza D'Oro Dolce is a light to medium roast based on 100% Arabica. The coffee shows soft notes and a mild acidity. This variant is now also available as L'Or Professional Espresso Harmonieux.

Piazza D'Oro Forza

Piazza D'Oro Forza offers a medium to full flavour. This variant also uses 100% Arabica beans. Its successor in the L'Or range is L'Or Professional Espresso Riche.

Piazza D'Oro Intenso

Piazza D'Oro Intenso is the most powerful variant and contains a blend of Arabica and Robusta beans. This gives the coffee more body and a rich crema. The corresponding L'Or variant is L'Or Professional Espresso Vibrant.

Flavour profile and aromas

The flavour profiles of Piazza D'Oro coffee beans range from soft and fruity to full-bodied and powerful. The beans are medium roasted, which creates a good balance between sweetness and bitterness.

Dolce: soft and fruity

The Dolce variant has aromas of apricot and light fruity notes. The coffee tastes smooth and is less bitter than the other variants. Ideal if you prefer a mild espresso.

Forza: balanced and full

Forza combines a full flavour with a gentle finish. The 100% Arabica composition gives a pleasant sweetness without overpowering bitterness.

Intenso: powerful with body

The Intenso variant delivers a pronounced flavour with notes of roasted nuts, including peanut. The Robusta in the blend adds extra body and a dense crema.

Compatibility with coffee machines

Piazza D'Oro coffee beans are suitable for most coffee machines that use whole beans. The beans are medium roasted and grind well in both bean-to-cup machines and semi-automatic espresso machines.

  • Sage bean-to-cup machines and espresso machines
  • Jura bean-to-cup machines
  • De'Longhi bean-to-cup machines and espresso machines
  • Philips/Saeco bean-to-cup machines

The medium roast makes the beans versatile. They work well at a fine grind for espresso, but also at a slightly coarser grind for lungo or cappuccino. Always check your machine's recommended grind setting.

Piazza D'Oro vs L'Or Professional Espresso

Jacobs Douwe Egberts has converted the Piazza D'Oro coffee beans range to the L'Or Professional Espresso range. The three variants have new names, but the flavour profiles have remained comparable.

  • Piazza D'Oro Dolce → L'Or Professional Espresso Harmonieux (light/medium, 100% Arabica)
  • Piazza D'Oro Forza → L'Or Professional Espresso Riche (medium/full, 100% Arabica)
  • Piazza D'Oro Intenso → L'Or Professional Espresso Vibrant (lightly strong, Arabica/Robusta blend)

If you know the Piazza D'Oro beans well and want to keep drinking the same coffee, choose the corresponding L'Or Professional Espresso variant. The 1 kg pack size stays the same, as does availability in value packs.
