What is the difference between filter coffee and espresso?
We do not make any claims about that. What we can explain is the difference in preparation. Filter coffee passes through a paper filter, which holds back much of the cafestol, the natural oil in the bean, so you get a clearer, lighter cup with more defined aromas. Espresso is extracted under pressure and without a paper filter, so more of those oils end up in the cup, which gives it more body, crema and a more intense taste. Coffee can be part of a varied diet; for health questions, speak to your doctor.
Which is cheaper to use?
Filter coffee is usually more economical, as you use less coffee per cup and do not need an expensive machine. Espresso requires more precision and maintenance, but delivers a more intense experience.
Are there only robusta beans in it?

Yes, this is one of the few coffee blends that consist of 100% robusta.

Which method is used to extract the caffeine?
Vergnano does not state the method on the pack; the industry uses Swiss Water, CO2, ethyl acetate or DCM.
Can you use cups with freshly ground coffee?
No, coffee capsules are specially made for single use and cannot be filled with freshly ground coffee. There are reusable capsules available, but the flavour is often less consistent and preparation is a bit more difficult.
Are coffee capsules worse for the environment than beans?
Yes, coffee capsules generate more waste because each serving is individually packaged. Although some brands offer recyclable capsules, the impact remains greater than when using fresh beans.
Which coffee beans are best for espresso?
For espresso, dark to medium roasted beans are the most suitable. They provide a full, rounded flavour with a slight bitterness and rich crema. Arabica beans are popular, but a small amount of Robusta adds extra punch.
Which is cheaper: coffee beans or pods?
Coffee beans are much more cost-effective in the long run. One kilo of beans yields an average of 50 to 60 cups, while pods are often three to four times more expensive per cup.
What is the ideal extraction time for espresso?
The ideal extraction time is between 25 and 30 seconds. That is the time the water needs to extract all the flavours from the coffee properly. If it runs faster, grind finer. If it takes longer, make the grind a little coarser.
How do I know if my grind is too coarse or too fine?

If your espresso is sour or the water runs through too quickly, the grind is too coarse. If the coffee tastes bitter or runs through slowly, the grind is too fine. Adjust in small steps each time and test again.

How often should I recalibrate my machine?
Recalibrate your machine as soon as you use different beans or if the taste suddenly changes. Humidity and temperature can also have an effect, so small adjustments are perfectly normal.
Why aren’t coffee beans vacuum packed?
Coffee beans are not vacuum packed because they continue to release gas after roasting. This would cause the bags to become pressurised. That is why valve packaging is used, which allows the gas to escape but does not let air in.
Is this tea decaffeinated?
No, this Tea of Life green tea is not decaffeinated; green tea naturally contains caffeine.
What are the shipping costs?
Orders from € 75 are shipped free of charge within the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. For France, Ireland, Austria, Spain, Lithuania, Portugal and Luxembourg, free shipping applies from € 250.
Can I freeze these bags as well, and if so, how do I do this (including defrosting)?

You can freeze coffee as long as you are 100% sure that the packaging is airtight, because moisture and odours from the freezer can make the coffee taste less good.

Also, do not freeze, defrost and then freeze again. If you use only a small amount, it is better to pack portions in freezer bags. But again: make sure they are airtight.

Personally, I would only recommend it if you really want to store the coffee for a longer period of time (>months).
