Social involvement

We are all responsible for a clean, liveable and safe environment. At Café du Jour we do everything we can to play our part. We ship parcels as quickly as possible, handle returned parcels with care and only sell products we stand behind.

We are aware that our business has an impact on the environment and our surroundings. Some of our products are made in countries where working conditions may be worse than here in the Netherlands. Your parcel may be delivered by a polluting delivery van. We also use a lot of packaging to ship fragile products, and we regularly get products sent back that can no longer be sold.

We therefore keep the negative impact we have on people, the environment and society as small as possible. We are not a big company yet and our impact is fairly small, but we still do everything we can to give our activities a positive turn. That also means we keep thinking ahead about how we can reduce our impact in the future.

Limiting our impact

To keep our impact to a minimum, we make conscious choices about what we use and who we work with. We work with couriers who are aware of the environment, for example by choosing bicycle delivery and green-gas vehicles, and who are willing to experiment with greener ways of working. Where possible, we also use packaging made from recycled boxes or carrying the Blue Angel ecolabel. The products we import ourselves come from European countries that we know have good working conditions. The goods we receive from other distributors all have a good reputation for working conditions, both for factory staff and for the people who supply the raw materials.

Giving back

Every year Café du Jour has products that can no longer be sold, for example because the season for a product has ended or because it is nearing its best-before date. Fortunately, we rarely have to throw products away. We donate products to people in need or to foundations that help people in developing countries. We also add products to orders as a little extra for the customer. Other products are sold below cost price or at a discount. We also sponsor clubs and non-profit organisations, for example with sports shirts or other clothing.
