Freshly Roasted Coffee

Learn all about freshly roasted coffee: roast dates, flavor differences, and freshness.
How do I choose the right grind size for my brewing method?
The right grind size depends on the brewing method you use. For an espresso, for example, a fine grind is ideal, while for a French press, a coarse grind is better suited. The grind size affects how quickly water flows through the coffee, which in turn influences the extraction and flavor of your coffee. Want to learn more about selecting the best grind size? Then visit our grind sizes page for a detailed overview and tips for each brewing method.
What is the difference between light, medium, and dark roasting?
Light, medium, and dark roasting differ mainly in the duration and intensity of the roasting process, which influences the taste and aroma. In light roasting, the beans retain much of their original flavors and have a mild acidity. Medium roasting provides a balanced profile with more body and a milder acidity, while dark roasting results in a more intense flavor and a fuller mouthfeel, often with notes of chocolate and nuts. Do you want to learn more about the different roasts? Visit our coffee roasting page.
How long does coffee stay fresh after roasting?
Coffee is best consumed within 2 to 3 months after roasting for optimal flavor experience. We advise letting the beans rest for at least a week, as the flavor in the first week after roasting is not yet optimal. So, if you receive a bag with a recent roast date, wait a little longer for the best result.
What is the best way to store freshly roasted coffee at home?
Fresh coffee is best stored away from moisture, heat, and odors, in an airtight container at room temperature. If you want to keep the beans for longer than a few weeks to months, freezing is also an option, provided the packaging is completely airtight to prevent moisture. We do not recommend the refrigerator, as coffee absorbs odors, which can negatively affect the taste. For ground coffee, it is more difficult to keep it fresh; we recommend storing ground coffee for no longer than 14 days after receipt in an airtight container at room temperature. Although coffee beans are technically shelf-stable for longer (1 to 2 years), we advise consuming fresh coffee within 2 to 3 months for the best flavor experience.
Do you offer coffee specialties, such as single origin or micro-lots?
Yes, we offer various single origins on our freshly roasted coffee page. Micro-lots are sometimes available as a limited edition; these are announced through our email newsletter.
Do I really need freshly roasted coffee?
Do I really really really need your freshly roasted coffee? Yes! You enjoy fresh bread, you love fresh juices, and you eat your vegetables fresh as well. Everything is tastier fresh, so why would you drink coffee that's been sitting on the shelf for ages? Our coffee is roasted fresh just before it gets shipped out. Every day we roast small batches to always ensure that the coffee beans we send are fresh. Moreover, we just make really good coffee. We taste every batch we produce (indeed, we get little sleep with all that caffeine), and if we don’t like it, the batch is rejected. Every bag of coffee we send out has the roast date printed on the packaging, so you can always see exactly how fresh your bag of coffee is. And just as important: we offer very competitive pricing! Feel free to compare us with other suppliers of freshly roasted coffee (and we’re more fun!!). Believe us, your taste buds will thank you.
How long ago was the freshly roasted coffee roasted?
We guarantee that our freshly roasted coffee is never older than four weeks at the time of delivery. In practice, it is often fresher, as we try to roast no more than necessary for the upcoming week. Each package clearly displays the roasting date.
When are freshly roasted coffee beans at their best?
The flavor of freshly roasted coffee beans is at its best after about a week of resting. If you receive beans that have been roasted recently, it may be worthwhile to let them rest for a few more days for the best tasting experience.
