What type of tea is in the Christmas Cookies? White or black tea?
Black tea
For how many cups is this grinder suitable?
The Skerton N grinds up to around 100 grams of coffee in one go, enough for about 10 cups.
Is single origin always better than a blend?
Single origin espresso is pure and unique, while blends are made for balance and consistent quality. Which is better depends on what you’re looking for in terms of flavour.
Why does single origin espresso sometimes taste more acidic?
Single origin beans are often roasted lighter to preserve their natural flavours. As a result, you taste more fruity or fresh notes that can quickly come across as acidic, especially with too fine a grind or too high a temperature.
Are single origin beans more expensive?
Often, yes, because they are produced in smaller quantities and are more traceable. So you are also paying for quality, origin and sustainability.
Can I use single origin beans in any espresso machine?
Yes, as long as you adjust the grind and settings to suit the bean. Some single origins require a bit more finesse, but they work perfectly well in both manual and fully automatic machines.
Can I make Dalgona coffee without instant coffee?
No, the typical foam of Dalgona coffee is only created with instant coffee. Regular filter coffee or espresso won’t work, because the concentration and solubility are different.
How do I get the foam firm enough?
Use equal parts instant coffee, sugar and hot water and whisk this with a whisk or mixer until it is light and airy. Keep whisking until you see peaks that hold their shape.
Can I drink Dalgona coffee hot as well?
Yes. Heat the milk instead of using cold milk. The foam remains the same, but the warm milk gives a smooth and creamy twist to the coffee.
Can I also use decaffeinated coffee?
Use a decaffeinated espresso if you still want to enjoy a freakshake in the evening without lying awake.
My shake is too thin, what now?
Add an extra scoop of ice cream or use a little less milk when blending. This will make the shake thicker and creamier.
Which toppings work best?
Biscuits, marshmallows, whipped cream and caramel sauce are classics. But pieces of brownie, popcorn or a mini doughnut always go down well too.
What is the difference between bubble tea and bubble coffee?
Bubble tea is usually based on tea with milk or a fruit flavour, while bubble coffee uses coffee as its base. Both contain tapioca pearls for that distinctive chewy texture.
Do I need to cook the tapioca pearls myself?
Yes, unless you’re using pre-cooked pearls. Most boba needs to be briefly boiled and then sweetened for the best flavour and texture.
Can I drink bubble coffee hot as well?
Yes. Heat the coffee and milk, and add the warm boba at the end. Just make sure you serve it straight away, otherwise the pearls will become chewy.
