Do I need to reset my coffee grinder with every new bag of beans?
Yes, especially if you switch roast profile (light or dark) or use a new bean, the ideal grind size can shift slightly.
What is the ideal extraction time for an espresso?
The guideline is 25 to 30 seconds for a classic espresso, brewed with 18-20 grams of coffee.
How long should a ristretto run?
A ristretto runs shorter than an espresso: typically 15 to 20 seconds.
How long should a lungo run?
A lungo runs longer, usually 35 to 40 seconds.
Why does my espresso run too fast?
Usually because of too coarse a grind or too little coffee in the portafilter. Grind finer and/or dose more.
Why does my espresso run too slowly?
Often because of too fine a grind or too much coffee. Grind coarser and/or reduce the dose.
How long does it take to roast coffee?
Count on 12 to 18 minutes of roasting time, plus 3 to 5 minutes of cooling.
Can I roast coffee without special equipment?
Yes, a wok or pan on the hob works fine. A coffee roaster like the Gene Cafe does give you more control over temperature and time.
How do I know which roast level I have?
Listen for the cracking sound: at the first crack you have a light roast, after the second crack a dark roast.
Can I brew home-roasted coffee straight away?
Preferably let roasted beans rest for 1 to 2 days (degassing) for the best flavour, although technically you can grind and brew them right away.

Can we try a few coffees first as a business?
Of course. Simply order a few 250 g packs of different coffees and let your team taste them. All coffees from our own roastery come in 250 g, 500 g and 1 kg, and on the product page you choose whole beans or freshly ground. Found a favourite? Order it by the kilo afterwards with volume discount.
Do you also supply coffee for hospitality or larger volumes?
Yes. Offices and smaller hospitality businesses simply order through the webshop: by the kilo, with automatic volume discount from 4 kilos. A separate quote with negotiated prices is usually only possible for orders by the pallet. For volumes like that, send us a message via our contact form with the coffee and quantity you have in mind and we will get back to you.
How do I request my invoice?
You can do this yourself: enter your order number and email address on Request your invoice and you will receive the invoice as a PDF within a few minutes.
Does Rooibos Ginger Lemon contain caffeine?
No, Rooibos Ginger Lemon is registered as caffeine free in our product data. The base is rooibos, which does not come from the tea plant and is naturally free of caffeine. The ginger and citrus peel in this blend do not add any caffeine either, so you can drink it at any time of day.
