Is matcha suitable during pregnancy?
Matcha contains caffeine, and the guidelines around caffeine intake during pregnancy can vary from situation to situation. For personal advice, always consult your doctor or midwife.
Is more expensive matcha always better?
A higher price can indicate higher quality, for example through a more careful harvest or finer grinding, but that's not a fixed rule. Rather look at the characteristics described above (colour, texture, origin) than at price alone.
Can I also use ceremonial matcha for a latte?
Yes, that's perfectly fine. Keep in mind that the matcha flavour then comes through more strongly, so you may need less sweetener to get a balanced taste.
Where is the best place to buy matcha powder?
At Café du Jour you'll find matcha that comes directly from Japan, with a clear description of the production process on the product page.
What does the Vroege vogel green tea taste like?

This blend is fresh and invigorating. The base is green tea, complemented by peppermint, lemongrass, marigold and hibiscus. That gives a light minty freshness with a citrus note and a soft, slightly floral finish. That is exactly why this is a tea we recommend for early in the morning.

Does this tea contain caffeine?

Yes. The base of this blend is green tea, which naturally contains caffeine, although the amount is a good deal lower than in coffee. Together with the invigorating herbs peppermint and lemongrass, that makes this tea particularly suitable as a morning tea. If you want a cup for the evening, it is better to choose a herbal blend without green tea.

What water temperature and steeping time are best for this green tea?

We recommend water of around 80 degrees Celsius and a steeping time of 2 to 3 minutes. Boiling water quickly makes green tea bitter. Allow around 2 grams of loose tea per cup, and take the tea strainer or filter bag out after steeping so the tea does not keep brewing.

How many cups of tea do I get from a 100 gram pack?

At around 2 grams per cup, 100 grams of loose tea gives you about 50 cups. If you prefer a slightly stronger cup, you will still get a good 40. Store the tea dry, dark and well sealed, so the aroma of the mint and the lemongrass is preserved for as long as possible.

Why does the indicator keep flashing after I replaced the filter?
The BRITA Memo needs restarting after you fit a new cartridge; your Marella manual explains exactly how.
Is a spare lid available for the Brita Marella?

We do not sell the lid on its own. The Brita Marella Blue arrives complete with its lid, flip-top filling flap and one MAXTRA+ cartridge, but spare parts are not part of our range.

Does the lid sit loosely or shift while you pour? First check that it clicks straight onto the funnel, because a lid placed at an angle always feels wobbly. If something is genuinely broken, send our customer service a message with a photo. While the jug is still under warranty, we will look for a solution together with BRITA. Worth knowing: the lid is the only part that is not dishwasher safe, so rinse it by hand.

Can you set the temperature on the Hario Buono kettle?

No, you cannot set a temperature on this Hario Buono kettle. It brings the water to the boil, switches off by itself afterwards and has boil dry protection.

For filter coffee that is not a problem. Switch the kettle on and let the water rest for half a minute to a minute after boiling before you start pouring. The temperature then drops by itself into the range where pour over tastes best. If you really want to work to the exact degree, you need a kettle with variable temperature control.

How often should I replace the MAXTRA+ cartridge in the Marella?

Count on a fresh MAXTRA+ cartridge every four weeks. The BRITA Memo on the lid keeps track of that interval for you and shows when the time is up, so you never have to make a note of it yourself.

Filter far more water than average and the cartridge will naturally be due sooner. Water running through more slowly or tasting different is another clear hint. Swapping takes about thirty seconds: old cartridge out, new one in, reset the Memo and your Brita Marella Blue filters like it did on day one. Thanks to the PerfectFit technology, every drop really does pass through the cartridge.

How do I fill and close a tea filter with string?

Spoon the loose tea into the filter, fold the top backwards to close it and hang it in your cup or pot just like a regular teabag.

Allow roughly one level teaspoon of loose tea per cup and do not fill the filter to the brim, because the leaves need room to unfurl. Let the string hang over the rim of your cup so you can lift the bag straight out once the tea has brewed. Store the filters in a dry place and do not use them in the microwave.

How much water does the Brita Marella Blue hold?

The jug holds 2.4 litres in total, of which 1.4 litres of filtered water ends up in the lower reservoir. That works out at roughly six 200 ml glasses, enough for a pot of tea plus a couple of glasses without refilling in between.

Topping up is a one-handed job: the flap in the lid opens while you hold the jug under the tap. Sharing with a household or filling bottles for the road? Then the 3.5 litre Marella XL is the comfier size. Apart from capacity the two jugs work in exactly the same way, with the same MAXTRA+ cartridge.

Is the Hario Buono kettle suitable for the Hario V60?

Yes, the Hario Buono 0.8 litre electric kettle is made for hand brewing with a V60. The narrow, curved spout gives you a thin and steady stream, so you can wet the coffee bed calmly and evenly.

That is exactly what you need for pour over: you decide where the water lands and how fast you pour. It works just as well with a Chemex, a Kalita or any other dripper. Brewing coffee by hand becomes a lot easier (and more fun) with it.
