FAQ
Customer Questions
Is the Costa Coffee Brazilian Single Origin Character Dark Roast suitable for a bean to cup machine?

This Costa Coffee is supplied as whole beans, so you can use it in any bean to cup machine or coffee grinder.

Do bear in mind that this is a dark roast. Dark roasted beans have a slightly oilier surface, which some bean to cup machines are more sensitive to than others. We therefore advise you to keep the grinder and the bean hopper clean on a regular basis.

If you are unsure whether your machine is suitable for dark beans, please check the manual of your bean to cup machine.

What does the Costa Coffee Brazilian Single Origin Character Dark Roast taste like and how strong is it?

This coffee has an intensity of 9, which we classify as very strong, so firm but not extreme.

Thanks to the dark roasting process you taste warm notes of milk chocolate, with nuances of roasted nuts and the natural sweetness of figs and dates. Gentle sweetness and a refined bitterness come together in a full, creamy cup.

If you want it less bitter, use a slightly coarser grind or let the coffee run through for a shorter time.

Where do the beans of the Costa Coffee Brazilian Single Origin come from?

This is a single origin from Brazil, made up of 100 percent Arabica beans.

Costa Coffee says it selects only five percent of the harvest for this quality. The beans carry the Rainforest Alliance label, which stands for sustainable and responsible production.

What preparations can you use these Costa Coffee dark roast coffee beans for?

The creamy texture makes this blend suitable for a wide range of preparations, from a powerful espresso to a cappuccino or latte.

You receive whole beans, so you grind them yourself to match your machine. For an espresso machine you choose an espresso grind, for a pour over filter such as a V60 or Moccamaster a filter grind and for the ground coffee chute of a Jura a percolator grind.

Allow roughly 16 to 20 grams for a double espresso and roughly 5 to 8 grams per cup of filter coffee.

How do you best store the 1 kilo Costa Coffee coffee beans?

The beans come in an airtight pack that preserves aroma and freshness.

Close the bag well after opening and store it in a cool, dark and dry place. Do not put coffee in the fridge, because the bean absorbs moisture and odours there.

Unopened, coffee keeps for about a year, but we advise drinking it within three months for the best flavour.
