There is a white haze on my Segafredo Intermezzo or De Roccis beans, is that mould?

No, that is almost never mould. What you see is crystallised caffeine and coffee oil moving to the outside of the bean. It looks like a white bloom, but it is harmless.

We see this more often with beans that have a higher robusta content, and within this selection in particular with the Segafredo Intermezzo and the De Roccis Qualità Oro Intenso. The taste of the coffee does not change because of it. If you are still unsure, feel free to send us a photo.

Which coffee beans are in the Italiaanse Espresso Selectie?

The selection consists of four 1 kilo bags: Segafredo Intermezzo, Lazarro Espresso Dark Roast, Lazarro Barista Caffè Crema and De Roccis Qualità Oro Intenso.

The Intermezzo is a medium roasted blend of arabica and robusta with a spicy character and a cocoa finish. The Lazarro Dark Roast is dark roasted, full and intense. The Lazarro Barista Caffè Crema is roasted lighter, softer and creamier. The De Roccis Qualità Oro Intenso is medium to dark roasted with a firm body and a spicy finish.

Are the beans from the Italian Espresso Selection suitable for a bean to cup machine?

Yes, all four varieties are whole beans and suitable for espresso machines, bean to cup machines and filter coffee makers. The Segafredo Intermezzo and the Lazarro Barista Caffè Crema are the lightest roasted and therefore the easiest for a bean to cup machine.

The Lazarro Espresso Dark Roast and the De Roccis Qualità Oro Intenso are roasted darker. Our customer service often explains that darker roasted beans can be more oily, which means ground coffee builds up more easily in the machine with prolonged use. A single bag normally causes no problems, but stick to the cleaning schedule of your machine if you drink dark roast more often.

Do I get beans or ground coffee with the Italian Espresso Selection, and can I change the composition?

You receive four bags of 1 kilo whole coffee beans, so no ground coffee. Beans versus ground is the most common ordering mistake, so check whether your machine grinds the beans itself.

The composition of this pack is fixed and cannot be changed. If you want one of the four separately, the Segafredo Intermezzo, both Lazarro coffees and the De Roccis Qualità Oro Intenso are also available separately per kilo.

How do you store four kilos of coffee beans from the Italiaanse Espresso Selectie?

Simply leave the bags you are not using yet sealed and store them cool, dark and well closed. Unopened, coffee beans stay good for about a year, although they taste best within a few months.

Close the bag you are using properly after every use, or transfer the beans to an airtight storage tin. Do not keep coffee in the fridge: moisture and other smells will spoil the flavour.
