- Removing PFAS from tap water
Why choose BRITA?
A BRITA water filter is a practical way to improve the quality of tap water. In areas with hard, limescale-rich water you will notice the difference quickly. For coffee and tea lovers, filtered water makes a clear difference to flavour and aroma.

BRITA filter types and models
BRITA offers several filter types, each suited to a specific use or need. The two most used cartridges are the BRITA MAXTRA PRO and the BRITA MicroDisc. There are also tap filters and filters for drinking bottles.
BRITA MAXTRA PRO Limescale Expert
The BRITA MAXTRA PRO Limescale Expert is designed for households with hard, limescale-rich water. This filter effectively removes limescale and improves the taste of tap water. It fits all BRITA filter jugs with MAXTRA fitting.
BRITA MAXTRA PRO Pure Performance
The BRITA MAXTRA PRO Pure Performance filter removes limescale, chlorine and PFAS from the water. This makes it suitable for those who pay extra attention to water quality. This filter is also compatible with BRITA filter jugs.
BRITA MicroDisc
The BRITA MicroDisc is a compact filter for BRITA drinking bottles and the Fill&Go series. The filter is small but effective: it filters chlorine, PFAS and other substances that affect taste. Ideal for on the go.
BRITA tap filter
A BRITA tap filter is mounted directly on the tap. This way you always have filtered water straight from the tap, without needing to fill a jug. Useful for everyday kitchen use.
BRITA professional dispensers
For offices and hospitality, BRITA offers professional water filter dispensers. These are suitable for larger volumes of filtered water and are often used with coffee machines and espresso machines.
How do BRITA filters work?
A BRITA water filter works using a combination of activated carbon and ion-exchange resin. Water flows through the cartridge and leaves unwanted substances behind. The result is water with improved taste and lower limescale concentration.
The activated carbon in the filter binds chlorine and organic compounds. The ion-exchange resin replaces calcium and magnesium ions with softer minerals. Some filter types, such as Pure Performance and MicroDisc, also filter PFAS.
How long does a BRITA filter last?
A BRITA MAXTRA PRO cartridge lasts on average four weeks with normal use, which is about 150 litres of filtered water. The BRITA MicroDisc lasts around six weeks. The hardness of the water in your area affects the filter lifespan.
When should you replace a BRITA filter?
- After four weeks for MAXTRA PRO (or sooner in hard water)
- After six weeks for the MicroDisc
- If the flow from the filter becomes noticeably slower
- If the taste of the water changes
- When the indicator on the jug or device shows replacement is due
