Passalacqua was established in 1948, during the challenging post-war years marked by a tense society and widespread poverty. Grandfather Samuel worked tirelessly as a sales representative to support his family, while his three sons, Biagio, Yor Armando, and Emilio, young and full of enthusiasm, courageously tackled the post-war labour shortage. An opportunity arose to purchase an old machine that could roast 5 kg of coffee every 20 minutes, and with it, they embarked on a new venture: Passalacqua.

No. Passalacqua has several blends and, according to our product data, the Harem does not have organic certification. Our site previously showed a text suggesting that all Passalacqua coffee is organic; that was not correct and that text has been amended.

Which coffees are in the Passalacqua Harem?

The Harem is a blend of 10 origins and consists of 100 percent arabica, so without robusta. Among them are three rare gourmet coffees: Guatemala Volcan Azul, Hawaii Kona Captain Cook Extra Fancy and Jamaica Blue Mountain.

The Jamaica Blue Mountain in particular makes this blend special, with a flavour that leans towards honey with hints of vanilla and dried fruit.

Do I get whole beans or ground coffee with the Passalacqua Harem?

You receive whole coffee beans in a 1 kilo pack.

If you want to use the coffee in a filter machine or a cafetière, grind the beans yourself and match the grind size to your equipment: filter grind for a pour over filter, coarser for a cafetière and fine for espresso.

Which coffee machine is the Passalacqua Harem suitable for?

According to our product data, the Harem is suitable for espresso, filter coffee and cappuccino. Because these are whole beans, you can use them directly in a bean to cup machine or in a separate coffee grinder.

It is a dark Italian style roast, so bear in mind that the bean can release a little more oil than a lighter roast. For a double espresso, allow around 16 to 20 grams.

The Harem is a dark roasted, naturally sweet coffee with an intensity of 7, which we classify as strong. In the flavour you can pick out honey, fruit, nut and caramel.
