MHW-3BOMBER WDT Lightning 2.0 - black - distribution tool with stand

The MHW-3BOMBER WDT Lightning 2.0 (T6126) is a black distribution tool with 8 stainless steel needles of about 0.4 mm, used to stir through ground coffee and loosen the clumps. WDT stands for Weiss Distribution Technique: working the grounds with fine needles so they sit evenly in the basket. Clumps can lead to uneven extraction and channelling.

How the WDT Lightning 2.0 works

The WDT Lightning 2.0 has an adjustment cap that changes the width and spread of the needles. Turn the cap gently and stop when it resists. A magnet in the top holds the tool on the iron stand with its lightning-bolt cut-out, needles hanging free and protected from knocks. The tool comes apart, and 6 spare needles are in the box.

Using the WDT Lightning 2.0

The WDT Lightning 2.0 goes to work after grinding and before tamping:

1. Set the needle spread for your basket.
2. Fit a dosing ring on the portafilter and add the ground coffee.
3. Stir clockwise through the coffee to break up the clumps.
4. Spread the grounds evenly and level the surface.
5. Tamp, for example with the MHW-3BOMBER Flash Tamper 2.0.

It works for filter coffee too: stir the dry grounds in the dripper. Keep the tool out of reach of children and do not push it against hard surfaces, as the needles can bend.
