MHW-3BOMBER Flash Tamper 2.0 - 58.35 mm ripple base - constant pressure tamper

The MHW-3BOMBER Flash Tamper 2.0 is a constant pressure tamper with a 58.35 mm rippled base that clicks once you reach 30 lbs of force, about 13.6 kg.

How the Flash Tamper 2.0 works

The Flash Tamper 2.0 uses three springs. The constant pressure spring lets the mechanism give way with a click you hear and feel at 30 lbs, a reset spring returns it, and a horizontal auxiliary spring helps keep it straight. A ring above the base rests on the basket rim, so the base stays at 90 degrees and sinks about 13 mm.

For a lighter tamp, a 15 lbs spring comes in the box. You cannot set the force with a dial; instead you swap the spring: take the mechanism apart, remove the internal pin and fit the other spring.

Using the Flash Tamper 2.0

The Flash Tamper 2.0 fits 58 mm baskets; check the inside diameter of yours, especially if it narrows towards the bottom. The order MHW-3BOMBER suggests:

1. Dose the coffee into the basket.
2. Distribute it, for example with the MHW-3BOMBER WDT Lightning 2.0.
3. Press down until you hear the click.
4. Brew your espresso.

Wipe the base with a dry cloth or a soft brush. The walnut is natural wood, so grain differs per tamper. More tools are under barista tools.
