Are the IDEE Kaffee Elegant Decaffeinated beans suitable for a bean to cup machine?

Yes. These decaffeinated beans are suitable for bean to cup machines and semi automatic machines, and you can also grind them yourself for filter coffee or espresso.

The beans are medium roasted and therefore less oily than a dark roast, which works nicely in the grinder of a bean to cup machine.

Fill the bean hopper with what you use up in about a week and keep the rest of the 1 kilo bag tightly closed.

Is IDEE Kaffee Elegant Decaffeinated completely caffeine free?

This coffee has been decaffeinated, but completely zero caffeine does not exist. In the EU, roasted decaffeinated coffee has a legal maximum of 0.1 percent caffeine, so a small residual amount always remains.

That is a fraction of what is in regular coffee. If you are very sensitive to caffeine, do take that small remainder into account.

Why is the crema from the IDEE Kaffee decaf beans thinner than with regular coffee?

During decaffeination the bean loses part of its oils and soluble substances. Those are exactly what create a firm, lasting crema, so a thin crema that disappears quickly is normal with decaf and is not down to your settings.

If you do want a bit more crema, try a slightly higher dose, grind slightly coarser so that you reach a double amount in around 25 to 30 seconds, and use a higher brewing temperature.

Coffee that has been open for a long time gives less crema anyway, so use the beans as fresh as possible.

Which grind size do I choose for the IDEE Kaffee Elegant Decaffeinated coffee beans?

These are whole beans, so you decide the grind size yourself. For espresso you grind fine, for a pour over filter such as a Moccamaster, Melitta or V60 you use filter grind, and for the ground coffee chute of a Jura, percolator grind.

Filter grind and percolator grind cannot be used interchangeably: filter grind is too fine for a percolator and percolator grind is too coarse for a filter machine, which gives a weak cup.

In a bean to cup machine you do not need to set anything, it grinds the beans itself.

How do I store the 1 kilo bag of IDEE Kaffee decaf coffee beans?

Store the bag cool, dark and tightly closed, for example in a kitchen cupboard. Do not put the beans in the fridge, because there they attract moisture and odours.

Unopened, coffee stays good for about a year; the exact date is on the packaging. Coffee tastes best within about three months, so pour part of it into an airtight tin and leave the rest of the kilo bag closed.
