The washed coffee from Yirgacheffe, a sub-region in Sidamo, is famous and in such high demand that it's regarded as its own micro-region.

This single-origin coffee offers herbaceous and floral notes, with hints of apple, rosemary, and peach.

Note: This is unroasted coffee and therefore needs to be roasted before consumption.

Details

Yirgacheffe is a district in the southern Sidamo region of Ethiopia and is widely recognised as one of the "birthplaces" of coffee. The washed coffee from this district is so renowned and sought after that Yirgacheffe is considered its own micro-region.

Most of the coffees grown in Yirgacheffe are local landraces, previously known as Ethiopian heirloom varieties.

FAQ
Customer Questions
Are these Ethiopian Yirgacheffe beans suitable for everyone, or mainly for enthusiasts of a particular flavour profile?
These Ethiopian Yirgacheffe beans have a fruity, floral character, with hints of apple, rosemary and peach. They are especially popular with lovers of a fruitier, more herbal coffee. For those who enjoy pronounced, complex flavours in which the origin is clearly discernible, these beans are an excellent choice.
What flavour can I expect after roasting these beans?
After roasting, these Yirgacheffe beans deliver a smooth, fruity coffee flavour with floral notes and hints of apple, rosemary and peach. Depending on the roast level, these fruity and spicy flavours may become more or less pronounced.
Are these unroasted beans harder to grind than other beans?
Unroasted (green) coffee beans are indeed much harder than roasted beans and cannot be ground in a regular coffee grinder. They need to be roasted first; after that, they become more brittle and suitable for grinding with a coffee grinder.
Do I still need to roast these beans myself before I can use them?
Yes, these beans are unroasted (green) and intended for people who want to roast their own coffee. They are not suitable for grinding and brewing directly. Make sure to roast the beans to your desired roast level before using them for coffee.
