These are the original, standard round Senseo coffee pods, so they fit the pod holders of Senseo coffee makers. For one cup you put one pod in the 1-cup holder, for two cups you use two pods in the 2-cup holder. Always lay the pod flat in the holder and press the rim down neatly, otherwise the water will run past it. If you are unsure about your model, check the manual of your machine.

Senseo Strong comes in the original light brown packaging with 48 pods. Customers sometimes confuse it with a green Senseo packaging, but that is a different variant with a different taste. If you want to be sure you have the right one at home, look at the name on the bag: it should say Strong.

Senseo Strong is made from dark roasted Arabica and Robusta beans, which gives a rich, powerful cup with a nice layer of crema. The robusta in the blend provides body and crema, but also brings a spicy and slightly bitter touch. If you find that too strong, the milder Senseo varieties are a better choice.

First check that you are using the right pad holder: one pad belongs in the 1-cup holder and two pads in the 2-cup holder. If the pad is lying askew or its rim is curled up, the water runs past it instead of through it. If your machine is set to the large cup size, the same amount of coffee is stretched with more water and the cup tastes thinner. If that does not help, descale your Senseo: a machine full of limescale brews at a lower temperature and gives a weaker cup.

Seal the bag well after opening and keep it cool, dark and dry. The coffee in a pad is already ground and therefore loses its aroma faster than whole beans, so it is better to finish an opened bag within a few weeks. Do not put the pads in the fridge: moisture and odours come at the expense of the taste.
