You can use almost any coffee bean with the Hario Mizudashi, but for the best results we recommend choosing a coarser grind and opting for beans with a profile that is sweet, fresh, and low in bitterness. Cold Brew generally brings out the sweeter, milder notes in coffee. Feel free to experiment to taste!

Can I also use the Hario Mizudashi Cold Brew Coffee Pot for making hot coffee or tea?

Yes, the Hario Mizudashi is made from heat- and cold-resistant glass. The included filter makes the pot suitable for brewing both Cold Brew coffee and loose leaf tea. For hot coffee, we recommend following Hario’s instructions, as the pot is officially designed for the Cold Brew brewing method.

Is the filter reusable and easy to clean?

Yes, the permanent filter of the Hario Mizudashi is reusable and easy to clean. After use, you can empty the filter, rinse it under running water and, if necessary, clean it with a soft brush. Both the filter and the pot are dishwasher safe.

How much coffee and water do I need for this Cold Brew pot and what is the best preparation method?

For a 600 ml pot of cold brew coffee, we recommend 650 ml of cold water with 50 grams of coarsely ground coffee beans. Place the coffee in the filter, slowly pour the water over it in a circular motion, put the lid on and shake gently. Then let the pot steep in the fridge for 8 to 12 hours. Afterwards, you can serve the coffee straight away, optionally with ice or milk.
