Senseo Extra Strong - coffee pods - 48 pieces

We get this question about Senseo pods regularly. In almost all cases it is not the pod itself, but the machine or the setting. If you use a single pod, put it in the 1-cup pod holder. In the 2-cup holder too much water runs through a single pod.

Also select the smallest cup size on your Senseo. The more water that goes through the same pod, the thinner the coffee becomes. Lay the pod flat and centred in the holder and press the ground coffee down lightly, so the water does not run past the edge.

If the coffee stays weak, descale your appliance. A machine with limescale lets the water run through too quickly, so the coffee has too little time to release its flavour.

The best before date is printed on the packaging. As long as the bag is closed, the pods stay good until that date. We recommend storing them cool, dry and dark and not in the fridge, because coffee picks up moisture and smells there.

Once you have opened the bag, close it well and preferably use the pods within a few weeks. The coffee in a pod is ground and loses its aroma faster than whole beans.

Senseo Extra Strong is an extra strong coffee pod made from dark roasted arabica and robusta beans. That gives an intense and punchy flavour with a lovely crema layer.

The robusta in the blend provides body and a spicy note, but it also brings more bitterness than a pod with only arabica. If you like a full, strong cup, this is a good choice. If you are looking for something milder, a more lightly roasted Senseo version is a better option.

A pack of Senseo Extra Strong contains 48 coffee pods. They are standard round Senseo pods that fit the pod holders of your Senseo appliance.

For a normal cup you use one pod in the 1-cup holder. If you want two cups at once or a larger mug, use the 2-cup holder with two pods. If you make a large mug with a single pod, even this strong coffee becomes thin and watery.
