Beautiful cocoa beans from the Lamas rainforest give rise to an extraordinary chocolate with intricate notes of flowers and tangy fruit.
The plantations are nestled in the San Martin region of northern Peru, scattered across a lush tropical landscape. This area is a sanctuary for endangered species, protected within Río Abiseo National Park and Cordillera Azul National Park. The crystal-clear lakes, like Lago Lindo and Lago Azul, are renowned for their pristine waters. The humidity of the Lamas rainforest creates perfect conditions for growing cocoa. These organically grown beans produce an exceptional chocolate with rich flavour nuances of flowers and tangy fruit.
About Oro Verde: This cooperative was established by fifty-six coffee farmers from Lamas province, San Martin region, on 7 December 1999. By 2020, the cooperative expanded to 1,203 members. It brings together the two cultures of the (high) Andes and the deep Amazonian rainforests. Three quarters of the farmers belong to the indigenous Chanca Lamista, Quechua, or Kichwa from Lamas, while the rest are migrants. The main crops are coffee and cocoa. Since 2010, they've been working to restore degraded areas under the motto "produce with happiness." Two million native trees have been planted to create favourable conditions for the area's flora and fauna.
