- The Gene Café Coffee Roaster. It's a well-designed, sturdy, and quiet home roaster that's fully adjustable for temperature and time. Ideal for roasting up to 250 grams of raw coffee at a time. Each batch takes about 13 to 17 minutes to roast.
- 6 x 250 grams of green coffee beans (a variety of different types)
- 6 x kraft bags for storing or gifting up to 500 grams of coffee per bag (resealable with a zipper)

With straightforward time and temperature controls and a fully transparent roasting chamber, you can dive into your first coffee roast with ease. As you gain experience, you'll be able to personalise your roasts and develop your own unique roast profile. The CBR-101 features a unique downward rotating swirl drum, ensuring an exceptionally even roast.
Usage Tips:
- It’s easy to accidentally roast your beans too dark, which can diminish the best flavors of the coffee and can be detrimental to fully automatic coffee machines.
- Always stay close to the roaster during the process for fire safety reasons and to listen for the first and/or second crack.
- Due to moisture loss during roasting, expect about a 20% reduction in weight from raw to roasted coffee beans.
- Roast under an extractor hood or near an open window to minimize smoke.
- Use 250 grams of green coffee beans per batch. Using less shortens the roasting time, while using more extends it. Keep this in mind to replicate roast profiles accurately.
- Start at a temperature of around 235 degrees Celsius and experiment further on future roasts. For example, more experienced roasters might begin with the highest temperature and gradually lower it after the first crack is heard.
- Quickly cool the beans after roasting by, for instance, shaking them back and forth in a sieve.
- Clean the roaster by removing chaff after each session. Every 20 roasts, remove the fleece trap for cleaning in warm water and ensure it’s thoroughly dry before using again. Residual grease doesn’t typically affect roast quality, but in severe cases, clean it to prevent fire risks.
- Allow at least 4 to 24 hours before using the roasted beans to brew coffee. The flavor is optimal between 3 to 5 days post-roast.
