Sholi Coffee is located in the mountains of Western Rwanda. Originally, Sholi started as a small association of women who pooled their resources. At the time, there was no market for coffee cherries in this area and there was no washing station to further process the harvested coffee beans.
With the help of Dutch non-profit organisations, they grew the cooperative and built their own washing station in 2014.
The coffee is grown at 1800-2000 meters above sea level, screen size 15, A1 Red Bourbon Arabica grown on volcanic soil and fully washed.
Since 2014, the project has grown rapidly and now has 610 members. Sholi has an impressive portfolio of buyers and is an example for other Rwandan cooperatives. They invest in social and environmental projects. They have contributed to the establishment of a health centre, water sources, loan system for school fees, health insurance for members, training and support for farmers and they have given each member a goat or pig as an extra payment.
